Age of Conan Gold Gains New Worth in Crafting Update
Age of Conan will be rolling out a major revamp of its crafting system, which is expected to bump up the value of the in-game currency.
The crafting update as described in the
February 2012 newsletter
will basically democratize the item crafting process because all players will have the core recipe to create an item.
Crafting items are also meant to become more powerful and useful, with developers promising that crafted gear will have a comparable or even greater
power level than the raid gear that many have complained only the elite few raiding guilds could obtain.
“The new system does look like a massive improvement over the current system. Hopefully they balance the gear to be worthwhile unlike all crafted
gear even culture that is outclassed by Khitai blues. They have to make the gear good enough so there is a demand for it, which will fuel the need for
crafting which in turn gives more players something to do,” said official forums user Usedtissue.
Impact on Age of Conan Gold
Many have welcomed the crafting system overhaul. They said it makes crafted power items more accessible to a greater number of players. It will also
encourage players to spend their gold as they purchase for the ingredients needed for crafting.
“This change would make gold worth something, right now it’s pretty useless,” noted Usedtissue.
“With the crafting revamp we'll have a better economy that will improve the game for everyone. Money will transfer between players and people will
be able to afford stuff on the trader,” echoed official forums user Paulson. Raw materials will be pretty much in hot demand, although there is some
concern that the rapid crafting of items will sink Gold prices for even the rarest of recipes.
“I'm a bit worried about the mass production we might see from the critical success chase and what that will do to the prices(i.e. anything but the
best will be sold for all), but from a raw materials POV it will be good times,” he said.
Components and effects items – the two main ingredient types for making an item – are expected to sell a pretty price in Gold and trade in massive
Each crafted item will require between two to five component items, the majority of which can be bought from other players. Higher-quality components
beyond green will obviously cost more Gold since these will dictate the core statistics and values for the crafted item.
The same higher-quality-higher-price principle applies for effects items. Players can use between one to six effects slots, which will affect the
additional stats that are imbued into the crafted item. Final stats will also change depending on the quality of effects items used, which will drive
up prices for rarer effects items that produce potentially more powerful crafted items.
