The following is an interview with Michael Sheng, operator of FAVGames on May 2nd, 2007:

How long have you been doing this? Did you start selling casually or has it always been a full time business?

The partners, Michael and Quinn, have been hardcorear gamers since the MUDs in the early 90’s, and we have always been avid gamers. We started out as casual sellers on bulletin boards and news groups, but once Ebay became popular, our business really started taking off. Three years ago, we incorporated as FavGames and hired a lot of talent both in the States and overseas.

What gave you the idea to start this type of business? Did you use to be a gamer, maybe even a buyer or did is there some other story behind your entry into this market?

Well, I have spent many a night playing Diku’s, Diablo, and pretty much every game you can think of. My first experience about how commercial this `virtual` business can be was selling Magic: The Gathering cards. My partner was one of the premier sellers of Diablo merchandise. Opening FavGames just kind of clicked, you know?

Did you come across any strange customers or business deals? Can you share one of the more weird experiences as a currency seller?

We have this one customer that sold his art collection for DAOC plat.

How about the customers that are not just strange, but really fraudulent – how do you deal with those and is it a big problem?

I actually went out to Virginia one time to sue a fraudulent customer. He chargebacked over $1000 worth of items, all purchased over a span of 3 months. Customers like that really irks me, because what he is doing is stealing. He might not think of going into a convenience store to steal a thousand Snickers bars, but he had no qualms about stealing platinum. There needs to be serious reform on E-Commerce over the internet.

Can you explain why players in the US usually need to pay more for World of Warcraft gold than those in Europe?

Sure. The European distributor for WOW doesn’t ban macro botters nor do they ban as heavily the trading and delivery accounts. FavGames prices our goods at a certain percentage over wholesale pricing, and WoW US is just a lot more expensive than WOW Euro.

Are you able to expand on any future plans of your company for this competitive market? Any particular goals or predictions you can share?

Actually, we are thinking about giving back to our customers. Starting May 15, we will be giving out free FavGames premium mouse pads to all our customers. I have noticed that nothing kills a raid faster than not being able to accurately click on the main tank. :) I hope our customers would put their gold and their new mouse pads to good use.

Are you playing MMORPGs yourself? If so, what game do you play and for how much would you sell your main character :) ?

Lol, my main on WoW has over 7000g which is worth about $700 just by itself, and she has a ton of epics. I might consider $1000 if it was sold to another avid gamer though!

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer our questions!
