About FFXIV Gil

Like with previous Final Fantasy series, the currency used in Final Fantasy XIV is called gil. In the game, gil is used to buy equipment such as weapons and armors as well as items and other accessories. Gil can be used to purchase items from shops as well as from other players who have items up for sale. There are several ways to make gil from completing mini games, fighting and winning battles to selling items that are obtain or crafted. Some classes are more adept in making gil. Those classes are mainly from the Discipline of the Hands which include eight classes; carpenter, blacksmith, armorer, goldsmith, leatherworker, weaver, alchemist and culinarian.

The game economy works around the concept of demand and supply. The price of items would vary year round depending on the demand and supply of that certain item. FFXIV makes selling items more friendly for gamers by the introduction of a retainer who continues to sell items for a certain player even after that player goes offline. Sales of in game currency is prohibited by the game developer. That however, does not stop sellers from approaching players with gold deals. Players and gold sellers involved in such activities more than often risk getting their accounts banned.
